Mark has been involved in medical practices from 1982 beginning in General Practice and eventually deciding to pursue non-surgical vein treatments and cosmetic medicine.
Born in Christchurch, but moving to Auckland at nine years of age, he has spent most of his life in New Zealand's biggest city. Educated in Auckland Grammar School and then at Auckland University (the fifth year of the new medical school) he did post graduate medical education in Auckland and Middlemore Hospitals with some time also at Waitakere Hospital.
After two years hospital work he took a break overseas for seven months travelling though the USA and Europe, thinking about where he what area of medicine he would prefer to be involved in. Deciding on General Pracice, he did its training programme and began his first practice in Manurewa in 1982. Having trained in Obstetrics as well, he also delivered babies as part of his family pactice.
After a number of years elected to take further time out overseas. For nine months the family lived in Turkey a country that had fascinated him for many years.
On return he established a solo General Practice from scratch, growing it into a large multi-doctor group in the newly expanding area of Howick. As with many other doctors at the time he found the obstetric side of practice had become unnecessarily complicated. On ceasing this part of medicine he began looking for some other special interest outlets.
Following some extra training in the newer non-surgical vein treatments he began treating his own patients. They were extremely grateful for the results. Also enjoying the fresh approach he began expanding this side of his practice.
After a year he set up his own rooms specifically for this modality. Springdale Clinic has continued to grow from that point. Other modalities were included in the non-surgical cosmetic field. These expanded and now includes a number of lasers.
Outside of medicine he loves travel, walking, gardening and reading extensively.
