The need for cellulite and body shaping treatments has become a increasing concern for many people. Especially if it can be done non-surgically. In my experience after I had treated people's veins their legs looked so much better. But they still had concerns that the overall look was not ideal, particularly with their cellulite and some shape bulges that had occurred over the years.
There are a number of changes that occur, more in women than men, in the condition of the superficial layers of the skin and immediately under it that are resistant to a lot of common remedies and treatments. For women, many of the problems relate to hormone changes both at puberty and menopause.
The altered levels of oestrogen in the blood stream affect all tissues to a degree, but are especially noticeable in the skin and fat layers under the skin. These hormone changes also affect the general body weight as well.
Beyond this is the regular battle many people have with maintaining a steady weight. As weight is lost to overcome this, two other problems occur: the skin remains loose in areas, and some areas seem to retain fat deposits in regions that are unflattering no matter how much weight is lost and exercise is used.
The hormone changes of pregnancy also cause the body to store energy for breastfeeding. This occurs in areas that bother people - about hips, thighs and backs. Shifting it later eludes many even with careful diet and exercise. These are special deposits designed like a famine store for the body to be used only if absolutely required.
Another common problem is the tendency of some people to retain fluid in the limbs, resulting in puffy and swollen ankles, legs and other areas.
Skin Tone & Loss of Weight
If weight has been retained for any length of time, be it from general weight gain or pregnancy, once it is lost the skin envelope does not seem to shrink down as readily.
Loose skin about the abdomen, lower back, buttocks, face and knees gives an unflattering image after all the effort. Much of this is due to the connective tissue within the skin. Collagen and elastin fibres have been stretched.
The elastin seems to have lost its ability to contract again. And the collagen support structure is over-stretched.
Up until recently the only way to counter this was through massage.
However manual massage is unable to stimulate enough response in the dermal layers to produce sufficient collagen and elastin to effectively overcome the stretching effect. With Endermologie®, Cosmecanique and Titan this is now possible
Cellulite or the orange peel dimpling of the skin is a common problem, mainly of women. It occurs in 95% of all women and is resistant to usual attempts, such as diet and exercise, to reduce it.
People who have lost significant weight often find they have no change in the cellulite appearance, and, at times, it is worse.
Cellulite is caused by a number of factors.
In early life the number of fat cells is determined for an individual. As weight is increased fat cells just become larger in volume.
For women, the fat immediately under the skin appears to be stimulated in expansion by the female hormones. In the area immediately under the skin, the tissue is bound down with a series of firm walls. When fat between these accumulates with the swollen fat cells, the walls become resistance points as the skin above gets stretched. The dimpling effect we recognise occurs.
Beyond this though other effects occur. There is a fine circulation through this space immediately under the skin as there is in other parts of the body. Blood vessels and lymphatic channels as they traverse the stretched firm walls become impaired in their function. Waste products accumulate and result in poor nutrition and metabolism of these local cells. The body cannot effectively manage these cells very well.
Therefore, although cellulite is a very common situation, the condition is not normal or healthy for the body. In more severe cases people are aware of this with the cellulite becoming tender or even painful.
Body Shape Problems
Women in pregnancy tend to gain weight about the hips, abdomen and upper thighs. Similar minor changes can occur with hormonal variations produced by oral contraception.
In spite of the hormone levels returning to normal (after the pregnancy and breast feeding time, or on stopping oral contraception) and toning through exercise the new distribution tends to remain to a degree. The fat in these areas is increased in the layer closest to the muscle layer. As noted, it is hormonally affected. Its main use is as an energy store for breastfeeding. To reduce it effectively requires many months of low food intake.
There is a simpler method of mobilising this layer utilising the unique mechanism of the Endermologie® Cellu M6 Integral machine.
This can supplemented with the FormoStar infra-red body wraps.
If the body shape problems are due to poor muscle tone or poor posture, these can be rapidly remedied with the Spine Force Huber machine.
Menopausal Weight Changes
The lowered hormone levels of menopause cause a number of unflattering changes. The skin loses its mechanical firmness and elasticity. Fat distribution changes. Weight tends to accumulate in the abdomen and chest giving the matronly figure.
Other effects over previous years such as abdominal surgery and changes from a sedentary lifestyle combine to affect both the circulation and the drainage of lymphatic fluid from the distal parts of the limbs.
Fat breakdown seems less efficient, in part related to the circulatory changes.
By utilising the unique properties of the Endermologie® Keymodule i machine (with or without the FormoStar infra-red body wraps), a number of these changes can be reversed or improved.
That Slim Beach Figure
For many people, and this includes men with their beer belly problem, weight seems to accumulate in the wrong places.
Even with controlled weight and muscle toning, frequently the tummy is rounder than what is desirable, the buttock fat rides down too far into the upper thigh and the skin about the knees is loose.
Both men and women seem to readily accumulate fat in the abdominal area, often concentrated below the navel.
Exercise to tone the abdominal muscles can produce a firm base. But the fat layer above remains.
Knee skin becomes stretched through frequent bending especially with sedentary jobs. The healthy elasticity is lost.
All these particular problems can be addressed through the Endermologie®Cellu M6 Integral machine (at times supplemented by the FormoStar infra-red body wraps).
The Spine Force machine can also be used to establish a better posture and good core muscle strength at the same time as giving a much better general toning to the body.
If you wish to develop a full change that will last for years, restoring a more youthful outline, trim figure and general feeling of well-being you can use all the above modalities.
Breast Drooping & Lack of Fulness
After pregnancy and breast feeding and again with time, the breasts lose their fullness. Some of this is temporary for the few months after breast feeding ceasing until tissue changes occur to fill them again.
Over time, as hormone levels change, the gland tissue is replaced by more fatty tissue. The ligament that supports the breast can also become elongated over time, especially with lack of adequate external support of good bras. This causes the typical breast drooping with time.
There are various surgical options available such as implants and breast lifts which we leave to the cosmetic surgeons.
But at Springdale our LPG technicians employ the Lift 6 machine with the Cosmecanique method to produce a good lift and increased fullness. This is particularly effective in cup sizes “A” and “B”. See more>
In the treatment section we describe the methods used at Springdale for cellulite and body shaping therapies.
